City of God ballerinas is part of my project with Casa de Santa Ana, a day-care centre for the elderly in the Cidade de Deus or City of God as the neighbourhood became known after the international success of the movie with the same name. Cidade de Deus is a poor neighbourhood or shanty town situated south of Rio de Janeiro. In recent years Casa de Santa Ana started using the open space of their function room to offer classes for children from the community. Inviting both the elderly and the young brings a nice energy to the day-centre and for many of the girls being able to have ballet classes allows them to fulfill a dream.
